LEWISTON – Eugenie Viviane Mailhot, 92, of 10 Seville Place, Lewiston, died Sunday morning, Jan. 1, at Montello Manor with her family by her side.

She was born in Lewiston on Oct. 17, 1913, the daughter of George and Corinne (Begin) Ducharme. She was educated in Lewiston schools and practiced cosmetology for several years.

She was a model in courage and strength, selfless in the care of her parents and siblings, a pillar of wisdom to her children and grandchildren. Her greatest joy was being surrounded by her family over her home cooked meals and sharing stories sprinkled with humorous anecdotes. She loved entertaining her friends for weekly card games. Her good humor and down to earth hospitality made everyone who visited her feel special.

On Sept. 5, 1933, she married Robert Mailhot. She was a communicant of St. Peter and Paul’s parish. She was a member of two societies of that parish, Les Marchandes de Bonheur and the Ladies of Ste. Anne. In the 1980s, the latter group recognized her as “mother of the year.”

She is survived by her children, Roger and Jacqueline Mailhot, Lucille and Dominique Casavant, Jacqueline Fortier, Roland and Patricia Mailhot, Raymond and Diane Mailhot, Reginald and Anne Mailhot; two dear sisters-in-law, Mrs. Mignonne Mailhot and Mrs. Cecile Mailhot; 15 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Robert Mailhot; six brothers and four sisters; a son-in-law, Henry Fortier; and a granddaughter, Denise Fortier.

The family wishes to thank the staff members of Montello Manor and CMMC for the excellent care they provided for Mrs. Mailhot.
