LIVERMORE FALLS – Police here had their hands full early New Year’s Day after a Lewiston man smashed out a window with his head in the police station and a brawl broke out in a parking lot minutes later.
Officer Steve Gould had stopped Daniel Cash, 28, on Bemis Street after he observed the driver operating erratically, Livermore Falls Lt. Tom Gould, Steve’s brother, said Monday.
Cash was allegedly operating under the influence and was taken to the station, Tom Gould said.
Cash was charged with OUI, and as police were trying to move him out of the police station and into a cruiser to be taken to Androscoggin County Jail in Auburn, he broke a safety window in the booking area with his head, Gould said.
It took three officers to get him back under control, he said.
Officers Richard Cusson and Edward Hastings helped Steve Gould subdue the man who was in handcuffs, Gould said.
Cash was then charged with disorderly conduct, criminal mischief and violating probation, he said. He was taken to St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center in Lewiston to be checked out before he went to jail, Gould said.
As officers were dealing with Cash at the police station, a large brawl was reported across the street from River View Pub in a parking lot on Depot Street, the lieutenant said.
A fourth officer, Tony Duvall, had to be called in to assist officers with the bar fight, he said.
The brawl was broken up and charges are pending, he said.
In an incident just before midnight New Year’s Eve, police also were called to a three-person fight on Gagnon Street that broke up before officers arrived, Gould said.
