FORT KENT (AP) – The U.S. biathlon team took shape Tuesday upon completion of four days of Olympic trials in Maine.
Jeremy Teela of Anchorage won the final 10-kilometer sprint to join fellow Alaskan Jay Hakkinen of Kasilof, who had pre-qualified. Other nominees for the men’s team were Tim Burke of Paul Smiths, N.Y., Lowell Bailey of Lake Placid, N.Y., and Brian Olsen of Minneapolis.
Rachel Steer of Anchorage won the women’s sprint to finish first in the competition. Other nominees for the team were Sarah Conrad of Laramie, Wyo., Carolyn Treacy of Duluth, Minn., and twins Lanny and Tracy Barnes of Durango, Colo.
The list of nominees will go to the U.S. Olympic Committee, which will make the final selections for the Turin Games, said Jerry Kokesh, U.S. Biathlon Association spokesman.
Twenty women and 15 men competed at the Maine Winter Sports Center. Biathlon combines cross-country skiing and target shooting with a rifle.
