TOPSHAM (AP) – About 50 Marine reservists left Tuesday for three months of training in California in preparation for a seven-month tour of duty in Iraq.

Members of Company A, 1st Battalion of the 25th Marines, gathered in the morning at their reserve center in Topsham to pack up their gear and say goodbye to family members.

The Marines were flown from Westover Air Force Base in Massachusetts to Twenty-Nine Palms, Calif., where they will undergo combat and counterinsurgency training.

The troops are scheduled to leave for Iraq in April.
