POLAND – Selectmen heard reports Tuesday from the Recreation Department and voted to postpone evaluating the town manager until his health improves.

The Recreation Department said the new ice rink is getting a lot of use. Due to the large turnout, School Union 29 has made its lot available for extra parking.

The rink is available for open skate sessions (no sticks or pucks) from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 7 to 10 p.m. with hockey allowed from 2 to 7 p.m. Some complaints have been made about hockey being played during the open skate sessions.

A winter festival featuring the band Swamp Donkeys and a lunch special from Sadie’s Caf will be held on Feb. 4 at Preservation Park. There will be sledding on the Poland Spring Inn’s golf course, as well as cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and ice skating.

Selectman Sandra Knowles made a motion that Town Manager Richard Chick’s job evaluation be put off for four to five months until his health improves. The motion was approved 3-2.

The new Dunkin’ Donuts site will have a new left turn lane on Route 26. It was decided that a connector onto Tripp Lake Road would not provide enough benefits to warrant construction.
