MIAMI (AP) – Lindsay Lohan was being treated at a Miami hospital for an asthma attack, her publicist said.

“She is resting comfortably,” spokeswoman Leslie Sloane Zelnick said Tuesday. The 19-year-old actress-pop star was in Miami to celebrate New Year’s Eve. She reportedly was admitted to the hospital Monday night, according to People magazine.

Dina Lohan, her mother and manager, told OK! magazine Wednesday that her daughter, who has suffered from asthma since she was 2, was getting better.

“I don’t think people understand how truly terrifying it is to have an asthma attack,” Dina Lohan was quoted as saying. “I’ll be taking her home to New York to recuperate. She’ll be resting at home until she begins shooting her new movie.”

A call to Zelnick by The Associated Press on whether Lohan remained hospitalized wasn’t immediately returned Wednesday.

Lohan, who grew up on Long Island, is set to begin shooting “Chapter 27,” a film about John Lennon’s killer, Mark David Chapman, in two weeks, People reported. Jared Leto will star as Chapman. Lennon was shot dead outside his New York apartment building on Dec. 8, 1980.

Lohan’s screen credits include roles in “Herbie: Fully Loaded,” “The Parent Trap” and “Mean Girls.” She recently released her sophomore album, “A Little More Personal (Raw).”

She reportedly had been hurt by a public divorce by her parents – settled last month – and reflected on her personal troubles in her music, including the song “Confessions of a Broken Heart,” about a daughter’s abandonment by her father.

Michael Lohan is serving 1 ¾ years in prison after pleading guilty last May in Nassau County to driving under the influence of alcohol and driving with a suspended license. He is eligible for parole in April.
