AUBURN – Mary Samson, 87, of Brooks Avenue, Lewiston died Tuesday, Jan. 3, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care.

She was born in Dorchester, Mass., on Jan. 30, 1918, the daughter of William and Sylvia Diamantopoulos. She grew up and attended Boston Latin High School in Dorchester, prior to moving to Lewiston with her family.

Upon the death of her husband, Armand Samson, she took over as owner and operator of the Samson Novelty Co. in Auburn for many years until her retirement.

She was a member of the Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity where she also belonged to the Philoptochos Society. She was also a member of the Daughters of Penelope.

A thoughtful, generous, loving, and caring person, she always put the need of others before herself. She was always so hospitable toward people whether it be serving cups of coffee or cooking meals for a large dinner party.

She loved animals, especially her dogs and also was very artistic and loved to paint. She very much enjoyed her trips to Greece where she visited her family.

She is survived by her former husband, Alex Pitarys, of Lewiston who took so good care of Mary for many years; she also leaves a sister-in-law, Ann Diamant, of Canton, Mass.; her godchildren, Christopher Kotsifas, Kay Kotsifas, Karen Bennett, Ann Robinson, and Cynthia Mickalide; and by her cousin, Jeannette Kourfalos of Medford, Mass.

She was predeceased by her sister, Bessie Kesaris; and her brothers, George and John Diamant.
