LEWISTON – Dorothy A. Heikkinen, 84, of Turner, died Thursday, Jan. 5, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center.

She was born in Buckfield on July 29, 1921, the daughter of John E. and Ruth Ellingwood Lowell. She attended Buckfield schools and worked as a certified nurse’s aid at Montello Manor for many years.

In later years she did private services for families. She married Vieno H. Heikkinen on June 6, 1942. She was a homemaker who loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed feeding the birds, gardening, puzzles, reading and cooking. She and her husband raised sheep.

She is survived by three daughters, Beverly Wing, of Greene, Helen Heikkinen, of Auburn and Irene Heikkinen and her fianc, David, of Turner; two sons, Thomas H. and his wife, Darlene and Robert V. and his wife, Pamela, all of Turner; three brothers, Frank Lowell, of Newry, Ralph Lowell and Howard Lowell, both of Buckfield; two sisters, Charlotte and Elsie, both of Buckfield; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Vieno H. Heikkinen in 2002; and a sister, Julia.
