ROCHESTER, N.H. (AP) – Police have made an arrest in connection with a fire that destroyed two downtown buildings early Friday morning.

Police on Friday arrested 43-year-old Timothy Berube, of Barrington, charging him with criminal threatening and criminal mischief, both misdemeanors. He was to be arraigned Monday in Rochester District Court.

Fire officials were still investigating the cause of the fire on Friday, but said they believed it started in he kitchen of Colby’s Ole Town Tavern just before dawn.

The fire spread to a neighboring apartment building, forcing a dozen residents out to the street. No one was injured.

According to police, Berube made threatening statements to Colby’s employees on Thursday night. He is charged with damaging a flag outside the bar.

Berube was held without bail due to a probation violation.
