CHESTERVILLE – Vinton Dunham “Vint” Norton, 92, of Chesterville, passed away at home, Jan. 6, surrounded by family after a long illness.

He was born, July 24, 1913, in Farmington to Roy and Enzie (Dunham) Norton, Vint was the oldest of five sons and educated in Farmington schools.

As a young man, he worked on Percy Gould’s farm in Farmington which inspired his love of the outdoors, leading him to becoming a woodsman and avid farmer. He also worked at the Wilton Woolen Mill, Forster Manufacturing and G.H. Bass.

On July 6, 1945 he married Katherine Heath.

He was known for his wisdom of cattle and enjoyed sharing this knowledge with younger farmers. He took pride in his draft horses, dairy cattle, and show steers, which earned him many awards in the 60 years of exhibition at local fairs including, “Best Herdsman” and others at Fryeburg Fair in 1976, 1977 and 1978. He raised a large vegetable gardens each year which he enjoyed sharing with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Katherine of 60 years; his daughter, Patricia Storer, of Windham; his sons, Russell, of Auburn and Terry, of Chesterville; a brother, Kenneth, of Farmington; nine grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 12 great- great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a son, Jerry; three brothers, Wendall, Phillip and Maurice.

Near the end of his battle, he especially enjoyed visits from his great-grandson, Lucas Durrell, of New Sharon who always brought a smile to his face.
