LEWISTON – A double 50th wedding anniversary was celebrated on Aug. 28 for two sisters and their husbands, at the Ramada Inn in Lewiston. George Raymond and the former Rita Obie were married on July 4, 1955, at St. Louis Church in Auburn. Normand Dallaire and the former Betty Obie were married on Oct. 15, 1955, also at St. Louis Church in Auburn. Both couples currently reside in Lewiston.

Hosting the party were a daughter, Cindy Raymond, and her husband, Allen Martin, of Sabattus, a sister of the couples, Linda Agren, and her husband, Donald, of Auburn, a brother, Gerard Obie, and his wife, Lorraine, of Lisbon and a cousin, James Howard, and his wife, Lory, of California.

There were 133 guests in attendance from Maine to California and from Canada and Belgium. Toastmaster was James Howard and a niece, Jessica Agren-Montminy, told a few stories about trips she had taken with the couples as a child. She also did the photography. Music was provided by grandsons Jim and John Raymond, with music from the 1950s. Granddaughter Kandice Sage from North Carolina was in charge of the gifts. Two great-nieces, Jennifer Precopio and Cassie Mocciola, were in charge of the guest books. A luncheon buffet and cake were served and dancing was enjoyed.

The Raymonds have a daughter, Cindy Raymond, and her husband, Allen Martin of Sabattus. They also had a son, James Raymond Sr., and his wife, Sara, of South Paris. Both deceased in April of 1998. They also have five grandchildren, Kandice Sage and her husband, Chris, and stepson, Christopher, of Jonesville, N.C., James Raymond Jr. of Auburn, John Raymond of Gorham, and Stasha and Samantha Heino of Oxford.

The Dallaires have many dear godchildren, nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Both couple are retired. Mrs. Raymond was employed at the Auburn School Department in the business office for 23 years. Mr. Raymond was employed at Pioneer Plastics for 30 years. After he retired, he worked five years at Motel 6 as a maintenance man.

Mrs. Dallaire was employed at St. Mary’s Hospital for 11 years. Mr. Dallaire was employed in sheet metal, Union Local 17, for 40 years, working all over Maine and surrounding states.

Original wedding attendants present were Linda Agren, Joan and Bob Dehetre, Marguerite Berube and Romeo Michaud. Two mothers of the couple also attended, Melvina Obie, age 87, and Alexandrine Dallaire, age 98.

The couples are very good friends and neighbors, in addition to being relatives. They enjoy family get-togethers, dining out, playing cards and especially their monthly trips to Foxwoods Casino in Connecticut.
