KEENE, N.H. (AP) – A city councilor vows to stay in office, even though a mix-up has him living outside the ward he represents.

Last July, Randy Filiault moved into a condominium in Keene, and at the time, officials in the city clerk’s office told him the condo was in Ward 2, the ward Filiault has represented for 14 years.

Now, he’s learning the building is in Ward 1, and that by law, he must leave the council because he doesn’t live in the district he represents.

State Sen. Thomas Eaton of Keene is working to make sure Filiault can stay put. He is proposing legislation that would list the building in Ward 2, where its residents have been voting anyway.
