AUBURN – Beverly Mae Spiro, 65, of Auburn, died on Tuesday, Jan. 10, at the Hospice House.

She was born on March 3, 1940, in South Paris the daughter of Richard and Pearl (Snow) Simmons. At age 5 she and her family moved to Auburn, where she attended Auburn schools. She graduated from Edward Little High School in 1958, where she was a majorette in the marching band for four years.

She married Anesti Spiro on Oct. 3, 1959. She worked for Prudential after high school until Anesti was released from the Army, after which she transferred to California. They resided in Redondo Beach and Los Angeles for almost 20 years, until she returned to Auburn in 1978.

She worked for the Auburn School Department for several years. In addition she worked at the United Methodist Church of Auburn as an office manager and led a Bible study class. She was also involved with the family business of property rental.

She was a member of the Red Hat Society, Mainely Madams chapter and the Methodist Church of Auburn. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her grandchildren and friends.

She is survived by her mother, Pearl Simmons; son, Richard Spiro and his wife, Gabrielle; sister, Brenda Mower and husband, Tom; grandchildren, Elijah, Lucas, and Ezekiel; aunts, Pat Snow, Margaret Berryment; uncle, Al Snow; brother-in-law, Andrea Spiro and wife, Danielle; nephews, Thomas and Timothy Mower, Andy Spiro Jr.; niece, Rhonda Sandoval; as well as many other members of her extended family; and many friends locally and in California; her cousin, Karen Asselin and longtime friend, Dee Crowley-Noel, who were both extremely supportive during her treatments.

She was predeceased by her husband Anesti in 2003; and father, Richard Simmons in 1998.

In addition the family would like to thank the staff of St. Mary’s hospital, particularly the oncology and ICU departments. Also we would like to thank the Hospice House entire staff for the wonderful time Beverly spent there and the support they offered all family and guests who came to be with her.
