ORONO – Ashley Underwood poured in 20 points and pulled down seven rebounds to lead the University of Maine to a 60-52 victory over Albany in collegiate women’s basketball action Wednesday.
Bracey Barker chipped in for the Black Bears (5-8) with 12 points, while Abby Schrader added 11.
Gia Sanders led Albany (4-9) with an 11-point effort, the only player to reach double digits. Maine held a seven-point advantage at the halftime break and hung on for the win.
Maine Maritime 65, UMF 63
FARMINGTON – Alyssa Burns drained 20 points and hauled down nine rebounds Wednesday night as the Maine Maritime University edged the University of Maine at Farmington 65-63 in more women’s basketball action. Michelle Gott chipped in for Maine Maritime (8-2) with 19 points, while Julia Knights added 15.
Kari Simpson and Karen Sirois led the Beavers (6-3) with 14 points apiece, while Melissa Sawyer tallied 10. Sawyer also pulled down 13 rebounds to lead her team. Maine Maritime trailed by three at the break, then went on a 35-30 run in the second half to pull of the victory.
