LIVERMORE – Town officials appointed Moe Laverdiere of Livermore highway foreman Thursday at $14 an hour, after former foreman Bert Bryant resigned unexpectedly.
Selectpersons held a special meeting Thursday to accept Bryant’s resignation and fill the vacant position and then fill Laverdiere’s position on the town crew, Livermore Administrative Assistant Kurt Schaub said Thursday.
Bryant lives in Livermore and had been in charge of the town’s roads since 2000. He told Schaub he was resigning on Wednesday afternoon without giving a reason, Schaub said.
He was elected as road commissioner and then opted to become highway foreman, Schaub said, of Bryant’s history working for the town.
Bryant could not be reached Thursday.
The town had a three-member crew that included Bryant and a pool of relief drivers that helps maintain 48 miles of roads, Schaub said. Laverdiere is already part of the crew.
Laverdiere’s appointment is a 90-day trial that is open to either party terminating it with Laverdiere able to go back to his old job on the town crew at his old pay of $12.19 an hour, Schaub said.
Selectpersons also hired Ron Greenwood of Livermore, who is in the pool of relief drivers, to take Laverdiere’s place on the crew. His pay is $10.50 an hour, Schaub said. “We’re very fortunate we have very capable people in the department, and they were able to pick up and go despite the loss of Bert,” Schaub said.
