CHESTERVILLE – Winola Robbins Hastings, 89, passed away peacefully at home with her family after a long battle with cancer.

She was born in North New Portland, Oct. 28, 1916, a twin to William Robbins. Her parents were Ernest and Mildred Rackliff Robbins.

She married Edward “Ted” Hastings Sr., April 29, 1932. Together they had six children. Ted died in October 1977, after a courageous battle with cancer.

She retired from Foster Manufacturing in Wilton after 40-plus years of service. She enjoyed spending time with her family. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren meant the world to her. She loved to cook meals for her family to help them out during their busy lives.

Her home was often a gathering place for all. She enjoyed long car rides and lunch out on the road. The Farmington Fair was a yearly event that she looked forward to and enjoyed so much. She was not a materialistic person and would go without if it would help her family. She always put other people first.

In 1990, Winola moved to New Vineyard with Leo Hardy to recover from surgery. They spent 10 years on that farm together. They had a large vegetable garden and enjoyed long rides taking in beautiful scenery.

She is survived by two daughters, Pauline Hastings, of Chesterville and Betty Clark and her husband, David, of Vienna; three sons, William “Bill” Hastings and his wife, Marian, Robert “Bobby” Hastings and his wife, Gayle, both of Chesterville, Randy Hastings and his wife, Carolyn, of Farmington; and a daughter-in-law, Gail Hastings, of Chesterville. She had a large number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Edward “Ted” Hastings Sr.; her son, Edward “Bub” Hastings Jr.; and longtime companion, Leo Hardy.
