Winter concert

LISBON – The Lisbon Community School winter concert will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, in the school gym, 33 Mill St. Donations are $1 donation a person or $5 a family. Snow date is Thursday, Jan. 26.

Grange forum

LITCHFIELD – Litchfield Grange 127 will host the second of a series of community forums at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 20. The topic will be “Energy Conservation.” The event focuses on residential energy use.

Light refreshments will be provided at the close of the presentation by Beth Nagusky, director of the Governor’s Office on Energy.

Future topics will include funeral planning, “What Your Pharmacist Wants You to Know,” financial planning and family disaster planning. Additional topic ideas are invited.

Benefit dance

LEWISTON – A benefit dance will be held to raise money for the American Cancer Society on Saturday, Jan. 21, at the Lewiston Elks Lodge on Lisbon Road. Last year more than $2,500 was raised.

Tickets are $10 a person or $12.50 at the door. There will be munchies, raffles, 50/50 and music with DJ Mark Peillet. For tickets, stop by the Sun Journal’s main office at 104 Park St. or call 784-3555.

Seniors install

LEWISTON – Lewiston Senior Citizens met on Jan. 9, called to order by Anna Faucher, acting president. Roll call of the board members was done by Rina Cloutier, secretary.

Installation of new officers was as follows: president, Faucher; first vice president, Yvette Audet; second vice president, Barbara Fournier; secretary, Cloutier; treasurer, Madeleine Beaulieu; three-year representative, Joyce Mathieu; two-year representative, Vi Dumais; one-year representative, Flo Anctil.

A report was given by the tour guide, Madeleine Beaulieu, who spoke on upcoming trips. Jeanne Strout said line dancing had been postponed due to lack of participants.

Barbara Taylor from Legal Services for the Elderly discussed legal services available for seniors over age 60. She is available at SeniorsPlus on Mollison Way on Tuesdays and Thursdays and walk-ins are welcome.

Seniors will meet at 1:15 p.m. Monday, Feb. 6, when a king and queen will be crowned. Bingo is held every first and third Wednesday of the month at 12:30 p.m.

Society speaker

POLAND – The Poland Historical Society will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, at the Old Schoolhouse, 1229 Maine St., next to the Poland Town Office. Members should note the change of day and time.

Coffee will be available before the meeting, and after the business meeting, refreshments will be served. L. Bowman Sturtevant will speak on the cemeteries of Poland and surrounding towns.

Sturtevant has written a book about local cemeteries. He will explain how he gathered his information and put it together. The public is welcome.
