AUBURN – Tri-County Health Services will hold free cervical cancer screenings during January for women who qualify. The screenings are part of “At Your Cervix,” a cervical cancer screening program funded by the Maine Health Access Foundation.
The screening days are for women under the age of 40 who either have no health insurance or have insurance plans with a high deductible.
Sara Hayes NP, Tri-County clinical director, said, “The goal is to give women with few health care resources the same standard of care enjoyed by women who have better health insurance coverage.
“At Your Cervix makes a wide range of cervical cancer screening services available. I encourage women to take charge of their reproductive health by attending one of our free screening days.”
Services offered will include pap tests, pelvic exams and high risk HPV testing, when appropriate. Hayes said, “Many women have no idea about the role that high risk HPV’ plays in cervical cancer.”
Dates, times and locations for the free screenings are:
Tuesday, Jan. 24, from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m., 39 Lower Main St. (the Golden Arch Building), Norway; and 70 Main St. (above the Midnight Blues Club), Auburn.
Wednesday, Jan. 25, from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m., 218 Penobscot St., Rumford; and from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at 193 Front St., Farmington.
