LEWISTON – Lewiston Elks Lodge #371 held its annual Hoop Shoot competition Sunday at the Multi-Purpose Center.

While turnout was low, a total of seven area youngsters competed, with four advancing to the District competition to ne held at Cony High School in Augusta this Sunday. Lodge Hoop Shoot chairman Timothy Lacombe announces the following results:

Boys, ages 10-11: 1. Trevor Baillargeon; 2. David Cusson; 3. Devin Duval.

Girls, 8-9: 1. Calli Murray; 2. Molly Murray.

Girls, 10-11: 1. Erin Cotterly.

Girls, 12-13: 1. Lauren Stockwell.

The Elks National Hoop Shoot program is open to all boys and girls ages 8 to 13 and is held by Lodges throughout the country. Competitors must shoot a total of 25 free throws, with the shooter converting the most shots in each age group advancing to the next level.

More than 3 million youth compete in the contest each year. District winners may have the opportunity to advance to state, regional and national contests. The national finals are scheduled for April in Springfield, Mass. Winners of the national contest will have their names posted in the National Basketball Hall of Fame.
