GORHAM (AP) – One person was killed and several were injured when a pickup truck collided head-on with a school bus carrying high school students, police said.

The victim, 19-year-old Christina McKinney of Gorham, was driving the pickup truck when the crash took place shortly after 10:30 a.m. Friday on New Portland Road, said Police Chief Ron Shepard.

Two of her passengers, 22-year-old Zachary Locke and 19-year-old Shawn Emerton, were taken to Maine Medical Center, where they remained Friday night.

The bus was carrying students to the Portland Arts and Technology High School. Four students and the driver were treated for minor injuries and released, Shepard said.

“What we’re looking at right now is her vehicle crossed the center line and was stuck head-on by the bus. The question is why?” Shepard said.

The accident remains under investigation.
