LONDON (AP) – Pete Doherty, the ex-boyfriend of supermodel Kate Moss, pleaded guilty Friday to possession of heroin, crack cocaine, morphine and marijuana.

Doherty, 26, admitted the offenses during a hearing at Thames Magistrates’ Court in London. He was freed on bail until sentencing on Feb. 8.

Police said the charges stemmed from Doherty’s arrest in east London on Dec. 4, one of a string of drug busts for the lead singer of the band Babyshambles.

Doherty also was arrested on Nov. 30 and charged with possession of cocaine and heroin. He pleaded guilty last week and was released on bail. He was stopped by police last Saturday while driving through east London and again arrested on suspicion of possessing drugs. He was released on bail and ordered to return to a police station for questioning on Feb. 2.

Moss, 31, lost valuable modeling contracts with H&M, Burberry and Chanel after the Daily Mirror tabloid published pictures in September of her allegedly using cocaine in a west London music studio where Doherty was recording.

Former Clash rocker Mick Jones, 50, went to a London police station Thursday to speak to officers investigating the allegations against Moss, a Metropolitan police officer said in a statement.

Doherty’s album was being produced by Jones, officials said.

Earlier this month, Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner Tarique Ghaffur asked Moss to return home to England and answer questions over the alleged drug use.

After the photos appeared, Moss released a statement in which she took “full responsibility” for her actions. She went into a rehabilitation clinic in Arizona and has since resumed her modeling career.

LAS VEGAS (AP) – Miss California Dustin-Leigh Konzelman and Miss District of Columbia Shannon Schambeau were the winners as preliminary competition wrapped up in the Miss America Pageant.

The televised finals and crowning of Miss America 2007 will be held Saturday at the Aladdin Resort & Casino.

Konzelman, 23, of Carlsbad, performed a rousing rendition of “12th Street Rag” on fiddle to win the talent competition Thursday, which earned her a $2,000 scholarship. She is a graduate of California Baptist University.

Schambeau, 25, a certified skydiver who aspires to head the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, won $1,000 for her victory in the swimsuit competition.

In preliminaries, the 52 women seeking the crown compete on three consecutive nights, their cumulative scores determining who makes the top 10 on Saturday. The preliminary scores account for 30 percent of their totals.

The shows also serve as a sort of dress rehearsal for Saturday’s pageant, which will be telecast by cable network Country Music Television starting at 8 p.m. EST.

Thursday night’s preliminary winners joined Miss South Carolina Erika Grace Powell and Miss Utah Julia Marie Bachison, who won in talent and swimsuit Tuesday, and Miss Oklahoma Jennifer Berry and Miss Virginia Kristi Lauren Glakas, who won Wednesday.

The pageant is being held outside Atlantic City, N.J., for the first time in its 85-year-history. It’s also the first time since Miss America began being televised in 1954 that the crowning won’t be carried by a major network.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Kristen Hall of the country music trio Sugarland is leaving the group to spend more time writing songs.

Hall wrote most of the melodic story songs that comprise Sugarland’s major-label debut, “Twice the Speed of Life.” Besides writing, Hall sang harmony and played guitar.

Fellow members Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush released this statement: “Kristen has decided that she wants to stay home and write songs, and we support her in that decision.”

A spokesman for Universal Music Group Nashville, which includes the band’s Mercury label, said Wednesday that Sugarland would continue as a group and will open for Kenny Chesney on his tour beginning March 23 in Dayton, Ohio.

Sugarland was one of country music’s bright spots last year, selling about 2 million copies of their album and producing the hit singles “Baby Girl” and “Something More.”
