NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) – The Coast Guard recovered the body of a missing sailboarder Sunday in Long Island Sound.

The body, which was found at about 11:30 a.m., was taken to Bridgeport Hospital for identification. It was found about 7.5 miles south-southeast of Stratford Point.

Rescue workers were called to Russian Beach off Stratford just after 5 p.m. Saturday after witnesses spotted the sailboarder clinging to his board.

The board and a kite were found just before 6 p.m.

The search stretched to the mouth of the Housatonic River.

The water temperature in the Sound was 39 degrees on Saturday, but witnesses said the man was wearing a dry suit to protect against the elements.
