NORWAY – It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and brother, Harold Eugene McAllister, 69, on Saturday, Jan. 21, at Stephens Memorial Hospital, comforted by his wife and children.

Harold “Mac” was born in Norway on Oct. 24, 1936, and raised in Lovell. He graduated from Fryeburg Academy in 1955, at which time he moved to the Norway area and married Marie Arlene Paradis of Paris, on June 21, 1958.

He was employed initially at the Paris Manufacturing Co. for five years and then for 39 years in the shoe industry. In the few years before his retirement, he worked at the Oxford County Courthouse and the Oxford Hills School District in maintenance and custodial services. For the past 10 years, he was the owner and operator of Mac’s Tool and Saw Sharpening Service on Alpine Street in Norway.

He was an active participant in the community. He served on the Budget Committee for the town of Paris and was a member of the board of directors of the original No-Par Federal Credit Union in South Paris.

He enjoyed children, sports, music and the outdoors. He coached Little League baseball and was instrumental in developing the Babe Ruth baseball program for children of South Paris. In his spare time, he was on a bowling team, provided waxing and repair services for the Oxford Hills Ski Teams in the 80s and was a member of Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine Club. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed spending time in the summer and fall with his family members hunting and fishing. “Mac” loved to dance with his wife and play his guitar and harmonica for his children and grandchildren. The Christmas holidays were very special to him. He found great pleasure in “doing” for others.

He leaves behind in his memory his beloved wife of 47 years, Marie A. (Paradis) McAllister and three children, Lori J. Bellwood and her husband, James A., of Oxford, Stephen R. McAllister and companion, Laura Landry, of Oxford and Kristin D. Linindoll and her husband, Thomas L., of South Paris; nine wonderful grandchildren, Jennifer M. (Bellwood) Webster and her husband, Brook E., of South Portland, Gregory J. Bellwood serving in the United States Army in Iraq, Stephanie A. Bellwood, of Oxford, Matthew S. Webster, of South Portland and Timothy Lee Mohring, III, of Jacksonville, Fla.; a brother, Ivan Orrington McAllister and his wife, Anita, of Ocean Springs, Miss.; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his father, Ivan Webster McAllister; his mother, Etta Mabel Ray; and a sister, Marie Lydia (McAllister) Wood-Matthews.
