Church speaker

WEST PARIS – Debi Irons will be the guest speaker at the West Paris Universalist Unitarian Church on Sunday, Jan. 29. Irons owns and operates Art Moves Dance Studio in Norway, which opened in 1988. Jim Burke, organist, will provide music for the 9 a.m. service.

Society meeting

WEST PARIS – The Greenwood Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1, at the home of Ellsworth and Joyce Hathaway, 109 Main St., West Paris. The program will be on woodcarving.

Sweetheart Dance

CANTON – A Sweetheart Dance will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, at the Old Fire Hall. Storm date will be Saturday, Feb. 11.

Entertainment will be provided by Country Jim Palmer and his singing partner, Lolalee, along Dell Parker, Jim Guilmette, Lillian Wright, Off the Hill Band, Don Thibodeau, Patrick Libby and Mary Pepin.

The dance is a fund-raiser for Palmer and Lolalee to help defray travel expenses to Tennessee, where they will represent the state and the Down East Country Music Association.

There will be refreshments on sale along with a 50/50 drawing, raffles and door prizes. Admission will be $6 a person. For more information, call Jim P. at 924-7111 or Lolalee at 674-2571.

Knitting guild

PARIS – The Western Maine Knitting Guild will meet from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Feb. 7, at the First Congregational Church, 17 East Main St., South Paris. Speaker will be Pat Thurston from Philbrook Toys and Fibers in Bethel. Everyone is welcome who is interested in knitting. For more information, call Midge Leighton at 743-7677.

Bible course

PARIS – A free Bible correspondence course covering the Old and New Testaments will be held through the Oxford Hills Church of Christ in South Paris. Bridge results

NORWAY – The Oxford Hills Bridge Club met at 9 a.m. Jan. 20 at the Fare Share Common on Main Street where a 3 table Howell was played.

Finishing first in Flight A were Dick Allen and Pete Cummings, tied with Luke Merry and Paul Barber. First in Flight B were Carol Curran and Suzanne Andrews.

Another game will be held Friday, Jan. 27. All bridge players are welcome. A partner is guaranteed. For information, call Les Buzzell at 745-9153.
