Auburn people will be pleased to learn that indications are favorable for the government appropriating $50,000 for a new postoffice. News that the Senate Committee on Public Buildings and Grounds reported favorably a bill making such an appropriation was received Wednesday by The Sun in an Associated Press dispatch.
Among the lots which have been mentioned as good places for the building providing that it is to be built is the lot where the Maine Hotel stands on Main street, the city bank on Turner street and the lot on Turner and Court streets where the bakery stands has also been mentioned.

Two inches of snow yesterday blanketed the barren countryside in the Lewiston-Auburn area to give motorists a hazardous day behind the wheel while temperatures remained well below freezing.
After nearly a month of no snow at all, most folks were happy to see the slowly-drifting flakes fall out of a gray winter sky. And planners for the International Snowshoe Congress slated for this week end were smiling with optimism.
Youngsters were happy to be able to try out their sleds again on nearby hills and to make snowmen and crunchy snowballs. But it wasn’t fun for drivers who skidded about the two cities throughout the day. The snow was blamed for several accidents.

Gov. Joseph Brennan announced Friday that he is submitting a bill to close all but one of the 70 state-operated retail liquor stores around Maine.
Brennan said he wants to place the retail liquor business, which the state entered after Prohibition ended in 1934, in the hands of private enterprise.
The state would continue to run the Kittery store, which was set up specifically to compete with lower-priced New Hampshire stores just across the border, Brennan said at his Statehouse news conference.
Maine wants to be sure the Kittery profits don’t end up in New Hampshire coffers, the governor said.
