LEWISTON – The Bates College Republicans will show a pro-Wal-Mart documentary film at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 26, in 301 Pettigrew Hall on the Bates campus.

The viewing of “Why Wal-Mart Works and Why That Makes Some People C-R-A-Z-Y!” will be free and open to the public.

Nearly 1.3 million people work for Wal-Mart and service nearly 138 million shoppers every week. Documentary producers Ron and Robert Galloway present an insider’s look at the world’s largest company, and how Wal-Mart’s quest for better pricing has created new efficiencies in distribution and an overall stronger marketplace.

This film directly challenges the popular anti-Wal-Mart film, “Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price.” The Bates Republicans hosted “Why Wal-Mart Works” in December and they are bringing it back by popular demand.

“There has been a lot of anti-Wal-Mart propaganda recently, but all Wal-Mart opponents deny the economic reality of the situation,” Treasurer Geoff Abbott said in a prepared statement. “The majority of Wal-Mart’s customers are people who go there for the low prices because they cannot afford to pay any more at another store. Wal-Mart is good for consumers – that is why it is successful.”
