LEWISTON – The Franco-American Heritage Center will host a gathering of La Rencontre at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 3.
The program will feature 20 young students from L’Ecole Francaise du Maine, a French immersion school in Freeport. They will present skits, poems from Jean de La Fontaine (Aesop’s Fables), and sing ancient and contemporary songs, all in French.
The meal will feature shepherd’s pie, pickled beets, rolls and butter, beverage and chocolate cream pie.
From 200 to 275 people gather monthly to speak only French for two hours. Everyone practices their native tongue and on occasion pay 25 cents for speaking English.
The cost is $6.50 a person, and reservations must be made ahead of time by calling Claudette at 786-6936 or the center at 783-1585. Everyone is invited.
