AUBURN – Raymond Marc Dumont, after a hiatus of several years, is returning to the Lewiston-Auburn Community Little Theatre to direct and choreograph the Tony Award-winning “Grand Hotel, The Musical” in March.
Dumont performed in the Philadelphia production of this show a few years ago. He choreographed the show when it was presented here 11 years ago. He has since directed and choreographed “Cabaret” and “Pippen” at Community Little Theatre and assisted with the choreography for “Singin’ in the Rain.”
He was managing director for Maine State Music Theatre, where he performed in “A Chorus Line.” He is presently assistant director at University of Southern Maine’s summer/winter Session.
Set in Berlin in 1928, “Grand Hotel” is a highly visual show with nonstop action. There is adult content. The world is in between wars. The stock market is booming. Berlin is the center of high life. The Grand Hotel teems with peculiar guests who come and go, each with his own story.
Cast members include Catherine Ouellette as the aging, fading ballerina Elizaveta Grushinskava; Karen McArthur as her longtime devoted confidante, Raffaela Ottannio; Bob Gauthier as the penniless Baron Felix von Gailgern; Tim Pinkham as Rohna, the dominating hotel manager; Bruce Gerry as Col. Dr. Otternschlag, a tormented World War I veteran turned morphine addict; Michelle Mahan as Flaemmchen, a typist, dreaming of Hollywood; Steve Dupont as Otto Kringleein, who befriends Flaemmchen.
Also, Scott Powers and Wayne Pike, as nightclub entertainers; Sarah Sutter, a countess; John Blanchette, a gigolo; Roger Philippon, General Director Hermann Preysing, the honest businessman; Melvin Morrison, Sandor, impresario of the floundering ballet company; Bruce Szal, Zinnowitz, a lawyer. The hotel personnel are Andy White, Jeremy Dubois and Ron Bouffard as the scullery workers; and Eileen Messina, Elizabeth Snyder and Rachel Hanscom, as the telephone operators; with Michael Litchfield, Joline Caron, David Kivus and Michael Weber completing the ensemble.
Assisting Dumont are Ron Bouffard, assistant director; Paul G. Caron, musical director; Linda Britt and Ellen Peters, producers, with Joel Salberg as production assistant; Liz Rollins, costumer, assisted by Eileen Messina; Celeste Philippon, stage manager; Rachel Morin, publicist; Karen Mayo, props; Stan Spilecki, set design and scenic artist; Renee Davis, makeup; Richard Martin, lighting; David Trask, sound; and Melody Driscoll, rehearsal prompter.
