AUGUSTA (AP) – Gov. John Baldacci’s younger brother Paul died from an abnormal aortic heart valve, officials said Friday.

Paul Baldacci was found dead at the governor’s home in Bangor on Thursday and the medical examiner’s office determined that the diseased valve caused Paul Baldacci’s heart to enlarge, the governor’s office said.

A public wake was scheduled from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at the Brookings-Smith Funeral Home at 133 Center Street in Bangor.

After a private funeral at Brookings-Smith on Sunday, there will be a celebration of Paul Baldacci’s life at Momma Baldacci’s Restaurant in Bangor at 4:30 p.m. that will be open to the public.

Paul Baldacci, who had two children and seven brothers and sisters, was 48.

The governor’s office said a Paul Baldacci Memorial Fund has been established for his children and that people wishing to contribute may send donations care of: Peter Baldacci, 46 Main St., Bangor, 04401.

While the governor and his wife and son have been residing at the Blaine House, Maine’s gubernatorial mansion in Augusta, Paul Baldacci had been living at his brother’s home in Bangor.

Paul Baldacci operated the family restaurant, Momma Baldacci’s, in Bangor.
