OXFORD – Brooklyn Smith and several members of her family were the guests of honor at the January dinner meeting of Post 112, American Legion, and Auxiliary presented Brooklyn the Post 112 Youth Saving Award.

When Brooklyn’s mother, Becky, slipped into a diabetic coma, Brooklyn acted in a manner above and beyond what is expected of a girl her age, which helped save the life of her mother.

Brooklyn quickly picked up the phone and dialed for help. She then went outside and flagged the ambulance down to her house. Brooklyn’s clear thinking and appropriate action assisted in saving the life of her mother.

Credit should be given to her parents as well for education and preparing her in the event of such an emergency.

Brooklyn, 8, is a second-grade student at the Oxford Elementary School. She is also a Brownie in Girl Scout Troop 111.
