LEWISTON – Farwell School will be open from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3, for interested alumni to visit before the school closes for good. When students return from vacation on Monday, Feb. 27, they will attend Holy Cross School until their new school is ready.

Winter walk

AUBURN – The Auburn Mall will host the 13th annual Winter Walk Against Violence from 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 4. Those interested can get sponsor sheets online at www.AWAP.org or call 795-6744.

The walk is the Abused Women’s Advocacy Project’s major annual fundraiser. The theme is to provide an opportunity for community members to join together to create and celebrate peace.

Art club speaker

AUBURN – The Auburn Art Club will meet at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 6, at the High Street Congregational Church.

Laurie Haynes St. Pierre will speak on the writing process as well as the types of publishing available to new writers.

St. Pierre will discuss three locally-authored books: “The Androscoggin 150th Pictorial Sesquicentennial History,” “The Three Grumpies” by Tamra Wright of Poland and “The Pink Room” by Mark LaFlamme, a reporter for the Sun Journal.

The books showcase a wide variety of publishing options. She will also show samples of the original edited pages, layouts, rough drafts and discuss the difference in the publishing process.

St. Pierre is owner of the Book Burrow and Cafe on Center Street.

Serving on the program committee with Joan Libby as chairwoman are Avis Grant, Elaine Sylvester and Annie Ray.

Seniors to meet

LEWISTON – The Lewiston Senior Citizens will meet at 1:15 p.m. Monday, Feb. 6, in the Multi-Purpose Center gym. They will crown a king and queen in celebration of Valentine’s Day.

Paul Ouellette of the Lewiston Fire Department will speak on “Fire Safety in the Home.” There will be announcements about upcoming events and trips. Refreshments will be served after the meeting. Everyone is welcome and members may bring a guest. Members of the Lewiston Senior Citizens must be at least 50 and may reside anywhere in the USA.

There are openings for the following trips: Sugar Party in Canada, Wednesday, March 29. A full meal with live music is included. Cost is $35.

Stars on Ice, Thursday, April 13, at 7 p.m., at the Cumberland County Civic Center. Cost is $48. Reserve seats as soon as possible by calling 784-2926, ext. 207.

MS meeting

LEWISTON – The MS Support Group and Caregivers will meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8, at the Lepage Conference Center, 99 Campus Ave. For more information, contact Kathy Adams-Iler at 783-5807.

DAR meeting

AUBURN – The Mary Dillingham Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8, at the home of Regent Carol MacNeill. Leonard Brooks will speak on Shaker history.
