BRUNSWICK – On Monday, Feb. 13, Trudi Van Dyke, executive director of The Torpedo Factory Art Center in Alexandria, Va., will tell the center’s story in a public talk at Maine Sound Stage, 14 Maine St.

Maine Sound Stage is a film, TV, commercial photography and sound recording studio at Fort Andross.

Van Dyke’s presentation is the first in four Creative Economy Forums presented by Midcoast REACH and the communities of Bath, Brunswick and Bowdoinham as part of a Community Development Block Grant.

The Torpedo Factory Art Center is an example of a community and economic revitalization through the arts. Built in 1919 and closed after World War II, the torpedo plant stored government documents and Smithsonian Institution artifacts for decades. It was once considered for demolition.

Van Dyke will give a presentation about how the 1900-era factory was transformed into an art center that welcomes 800,000 visitors to 85 studios, 165 artists, six galleries, two workshops, The Art League School and the Alexandria Archaeology Museum.

Artists there work in studios open to the public.

Maine Sound Stage is located in the Mill 2 wing of Fort Andross at 14 Maine St. The main entrance is on the river side of the mill. To find Maine Sound Stage, turn right onto the driveway immediately after Mill 2 (on the southwest side of the mill, facing the Topsham-Brunswick footbridge) and proceed downhill with river on the left, mill on the right. Look for a black awning over the entrance to Maine Sound Stage.

The public is invited to this free forum, which will begin promptly at 6 p.m.

A brief tour of Maine Sound Stage will be offered prior to the presentation at 5:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served.
