GORHAM – The 55-member Southern Maine Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Robert Lehmann, will perform Bach’s “Coffee Cantata” Saturday, Feb. 11.

The concert will begin at 8 p.m. in Corthell Concert Hall on the University of Southern Maine’s Gorham campus.

The orchestra will be joined by School of Music vocal faculty members Malcolm Smith, bass; Christina Astrachan, soprano; and Bruce Fithian, tenor.

Lehmann notes that coffee was the rage in the early 1700s. Coffeehouses were popular gathering places for artists and musicians. People could catch up with the latest arts news there as well as, on occasion, hear a new work performed.

Admission price is $6 for the general public, and $3 for seniors and students. Call the music box office at 780-5555 for reservations.
