DIXFIELD – Round 1 playoffs begin this week in the Boys Division of the Western Maine Youth Basketball League (Grades 5-6). The post-season tourney champ will be decided this weekend at Dirigo Middle School.
Wilton is the regular season champion, finishing with an 11-0 record. Wilton has drawn an opening round bye, along with the other top 4 finishers, (2) Auburn-Lewiston YMCA, (3) Mexico, and (4) Dixfield. Preliminary games are scheduled this week at the home of the higher seeded clubs, as follows: (9) AYS at Turner (8), (12) Lisbon at (5) Maranacook, (10) North Franklin at (7) Oxford Hills, (11) Auburn Rec at (6) Lewiston Rec (6).
Playoffs switch to Dirigo Middle School Saturday and Sunday, as follows: Saturday: 9 a.m., Mexico vs winner Lewiston Rec-Auburn Rec; 10:30, Auburn-Lewiston YMCA vs winner OH-North Franklin; 12:00, Dixfield vs winner Maranacook-Lisbon; 1:30, Wilton vs winner Turner-AYS; 3:00, semifinals. Sunday: 10 a.m., championship. Admission for the weekend games is $2 for adults and $1 for children. A concession stand will be available.
In final regular season action, Wilton rolled past Lewiston Rec 62-40 as Eric Berry tallied 21 points and Nick Hilton 20. Jeff Turcotte (20) and Rossignol (9) paced Lewiston.
Auburn-Lewiston YMCA clinched second place by defeating Oxford Hills 45-33. Corbin Hyde led with a dozen points. Shawn Ricker was next with 9. Bryan Lynch scored 10 for OH. Mike Barrucci added 4. YMCA also tripped Lisbon 60-18 as Tyler Goyette and Hyde both scored 10. Cameron Graf and Zach Splude both tallied 9 for Lisbon.
Mexico beat Turner 48-41 as Issac Roberts poured in 20. Zach Radcliff contributed 10 more. Jordan Hersom of Turner was the game’s high scorer with 21 points. Tim Dow added 7.
Oxford Hills edged Dixfield 41-38 as Lynch collected 14 and Ian Beaudoin 10. Cody St. Germaine paced the Dixies with 16. TJ Frost and Caleb Turner added 7 each.
Seth Miller (12) and Paul Joslyn (11) powered Maranacook to a 49-26 triumph over AYS. Gavin Jones (8) and Jake Richards (6) led AYS.
North Franklin squeezed out a 34-32 win over Auburn Rec as Ben Holmes netted 21 and Keegan Brooks 6. Josh Caiani and Chris Childs each scored 8 for Auburn.
Richards registered 12 points and Nate Hamblin 10 as AYS defeated North Franklin 39-19. Holmes (11) and C. Dixon (4) sparked Franklin.
