Bridgton – Kenwood P. Freeley, 74, of Julie Street, Poland, died Sunday, Feb. 5, at the Bridgton Hospital.

He was born in Boston, May 20, 1931, the middle son of James F. and Catherine C. Crowley Freeley. He served four years in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He married Barbara Ann Adams on Aug. 29, 1964. He was director of safety and loss prevention at Pioneer Plastics, retiring in 1988 after 26 years.

Retirement was only the beginning for him. He enrolled in college, earned a B.A. and 18 hours toward his master’s degree in counseling.

Service to others was always very important to Ken, teaching teenagers and handicapped people to drive with Atlantic Driving School, teaching handicapped skiers, volunteering in shelters, hospitals, teaching safety and first aid and serving as a volunteer EMT.

He loved skiing, was a registered EPSIA instructor, and played golf and tennis. He and Barbara enjoyed boating with the Sebago Boating Club and traveled New England with their round dance club. He was proud of his Irish heritage. A real highlight of his life was a trip with 69 family members to visit relatives in Ireland. He loved animals and is sadly missed by his beloved American Eskimo dog, Patrick.

He was an active member of the Auburn Catholic Community at St. Philip’s Church, Knights of Columbus council of Windham, Andy Valley Memorial Assembly 4th Degree Knights of Columbus of Auburn and a life-member of Frank W. Hulett Post V.F.W. of Auburn.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara of Poland; a son, Kenwood G. Freeley and his fiance, Sandra Clark, of Raymond; two brothers, James F. Freeley Jr. and his wife, Marjorie A., of Framingham, Mass., and Quentin J. Freeley of Florida; a niece, Marjorie; a nephew, James F. III; and Kristina, Steven and Abigail.
