FARMINGTON – Roy H. “Joe” Dyke, 80, of Wilton, passed away Saturday, Feb. 4, at Edgewood Rehabilitation and Living Center.

He was born April 20, 1926, in Wilton, a son of Guy E. and Stella (Davenport) Dyke. He was a lifelong resident, graduating from Wilton Academy in 1944 and from Maine Central Institute in 1948. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Dayton during World War II. He married Ruth M. Watson in 1951, and they enjoyed 46 years together until her death in 1997.

He was employed by Wilton Woolen Co. for seven years as paymaster in the payroll department until the mill closed in 1955. He then worked for Depositors Trust Co. for 14 years as assistant manager in the Wilton office. Later, he was employed by Franklin Savings Bank as the first branch manager of the Jay branch and later opened the new Wilton branch as assistant vice president and Wilton Branch manager. He retired in 1989 after 20 years.

He was a member of the Frank L. Mitchell VFW Post 3335, the Wilton Masonic Lodge 156 A.F. & A.M. and was a 52-year member of Hosmer-Edwards American Legion Post of Wilton. He also was a member of the First Congregational Church of Wilton and was past grand noble of the Williamson Lodge 20 I.O.O.F. and served as financial secretary for 15 years. He was a past president of the Wilton Lions Club, where he continued to be a very active member helping to make their many projects successful.

Joe was an avid baseball and basketball fan having spent many years as an outstanding participant in both sports. He was also a past member of the International Association of approved basketball officials for more than 29 years and past president of the Maine Board No. 20 IAABO. He had also recently received word that he was to be inducted into the Maine Baseball Hall of Fame from his time as an All-Star second baseman in the semipro Pine Tree League and Timber League.

Much of his life revolved around summers at camp on Wilson Lake and spending time with his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all those lifelong and new friends of Wilton and from camp, his beautiful card playing grandchildren and his family. He was always ready and willing to help whenever needed.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Kathy Jo and Christopher Kobik of Cape May, N.J.; his son, Scott L. Dyke of Brooks and his fiance, Lucretia Smith, of St. Albans; grandchildren, Kelsey and Maggie Kobik and Alexandra and Andrew Dyke; brothers, Travis “Ted” and Wallace “Skip” and his wife, Erlane, of Farmington, Wayne and his wife, Ginny, of Gray; sisters, Caroletta Dyke and Doreen Watson, both of Gray; and sister-in-law, Ginger Dyke of Skowhegan.

He was predeceased by a brother, Guy Dyke Jr.
