POLAND – Lydia G. Ferland, 85, of Hardscrabble Road, Poland, died peacefully at her home on Tuesday, Feb. 7.

She was born in Ste. Germaine, Quebec on April 30, 1920, the daughter of Arthur and Albina (Lamothe) Sarrazin. She married Lionel C. Ferland on March 3, 1945 at Sacred Heart Church and together they raised their five children and ran their family owned farm, Ferland Farm in Poland.

During World War II she worked for Philip Elmet and was very active in selling war bonds. She was very active in Sacred Heart Church and was a charter member of the church and helped raise the money needed to open the doors in 1938.

She was a member of the Sacred Heart Golden Age Club, 4-H club, Ladies of St. Anne, and Busy B’s. She was a member of Excelsior Grange No. 5 for 65 years. She was active in school and community organizations and her home and table was always open to youth for nourishment and guidance.

She leaves two daughters, Irene Ferland Theriault and her husband, Stephen, of New Hampshire and Jo-Ann Ferland Jackson and her husband, Raymond, of Poland; three sons, Lionel Ferland Jr. and his wife, Anita, of Poland, Richard Ferland and his wife, Sandra, of Hebron and Denis Ferland and his wife, Cindy, of Poland; 11 grandchildren, Jocelyn Theriault of Texas, Kathryn Theriault of New Hampshire, Seth Bilodeau of Auburn, Jessica Bilodeau of Poland, Robert Ferland of Swanville, Brian Ferland of Rhode Island, Kristie Ferland of Orono, Scott Ferland of Poland, Pete Ferland of Pennsylvania, Paul Ferland of Auburn and David Ferland of Auburn; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Theresa St.Hilaire of Auburn and Florence Sylvester of Massachusetts; three brothers, Rosaire Sarrasin of Lewiston, Elmo Sarrazin of Lewiston and Paul Sarrazin of Illinois; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by two sisters, Rose Labbe and Loretta McCormick; and a brother, Phillip Sarrazin.
