NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) – A New Haven school crossing guard has been charged with drug possession.
State police arrested Troy Moore, 37, in front of his home on Wednesday on charges of possession of crack cocaine within 1,500 feet of a school.
Moore’s arrest was his third in 12 years. He was convicted of possession and sale of narcotics in 1994 and 2001, WFSB-TV reported.
Tina Burgett, New Haven’s personnel director, said Moore lied on his job application, saying he was convicted once.
“We always double check the sex offender list. We do background checks for our full-time jobs,” she said. “We unfortunately don’t do it for these part-time jobs but we’ll review that policy.”
Prosecutors were seeking a $400,000 bond. Moore remained in police custody Thursday.
