in the eight years Mike Miclon has owned the Oddfellow Theater in Buckfield, he has never performed a solo show. Friday and Saturday, Feb. 17 and 18, he will rectify that, sort of.
Miclon will be joined by two of his most famous alter egos – Moto Hoonchbach and Dickie Hyper-Hynie.
These two characters have taken on lives of their own, from hosting Halloween and New Year’s shows, to performing in commercials and signing autographs and answering fan mail. In the show called “Altered Egos,” Miclon will attempt to shed some light on what it’s like for these three extremely different actors to inhabit one body and one stage. Each persona will perform at least one classic performance piece as well as brand new, never before seen material. Hoonchbach and Hyper-Hynie fight for control of the show – and Miclon’s brain – in an evening of big laughs and crazy fun.
Miclon’s career has spanned more than 20 years and has brought him all across the United States and Europe with such highlights as performances at the White House and Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.,the Keller Theater in Geisson Germany and The Festa Americana in Naples, Italy.
Outrageous characters seen on shows like “The Carol Burnett Show,” “The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson” and “Saturday Night Live” fascinated Miclon from an early age. He imitated many of these characters and then began to invent his own, along with learning to do impressions.
By ninth grade, Miclon had developed quite a reputation as a class clown, but had no real outlet for his comedy. It was then that he joined the Buckfield High School Drama club, headed up by renowned vaudevillian Denise Reehl.
Reehl took notice of Miclon’s comic ability and his strong desire to be on stage. She and her husband, Benny, took Miclon on as their apprentice from 1982 to 1987. Miclon also studied extensively with mime master Tony Montanaro at the Celebration Barn Theater in South Paris.
In 1998, Miclon and his wife, Kimberly, purchased the old Odd Fellow’s Hall in the center of Buckfield and transformed it into the Oddfellow Theater. The theater is in its eighth season, and up until now Miclon has performed only in collaborative efforts.
“Altered Egos” will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors, and $6 for children 12 and younger.
