WOODLAND (AP) – A snowmobiler from Fort Fairfield was killed when his sled crashed into a tree, making him the third fatality of the season in Maine, the Maine Warden Service said Friday.

Mark McKenney, 32, was operating a 2003 SkiDoo on a club trail in Woodland, near Caribou, when he missed a turn, left the trail and struck a tree. Warden Sgt. Brian Gray said the accident happened sometime Thursday night, but was not discovered until Friday morning by another snowmobiler.

Officials said McKenney died at the scene.
