PALM HARBOR, Fla. – Henry MacDonald “Don” Beal passed away at St. Mark Village in Palm Harbor, Fla. ,on Feb. 7, after a long illness.
He was born in Phillips, July 18, 1918, the son of Henry and Kathleen Beal.
Following the death of his father in the flu epidemic of that year, Don was raised in Phillips by his loving uncle and aunt, Herman and “Daisy” Beal.
A graduate of Phillips High School and Bentley College, he worked for Central Maine Power Co. in Augusta.
He later joined the H.A. Furbish Co. in Rangeley in 1944, retiring in 1976. While a resident of Florida, he maintained his ties to Maine, living in Farmington and his cottage in Rangeley.
He was a member of Palm Harbor Methodist Church, the Maine Masonics AF & AM and the Egypt Shriners. He was also a U.S. Army veteran, having served in France during World War II.
On Dec. 7, 1940, he married Beverly Keller of Augusta, his loving wife of 65 years, who survives him. He is also survived by a niece, Beverly and Fred Golish of Vermont and their son, David Russell; two nephews, David and Celeste Hyer of Otisfield and Alton and Deanne Hyer of Augusta and their daughters, Beth and Jared, and Lisa and Darby Erickson.
He was predeceased by two sisters, Annie Beal and Ruth Hyer.
