FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) – The New England Patriots signed free agent wide receiver Zuriel Smith on Friday and allocated him to NFL Europe.

The 5-foot-11, 175-pound Smith was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the sixth round of the 2003 draft out of Hampton. He played in nine games mostly as a return specialist for the Cowboys that season.

He has returned 30 punts for 212 yards and 23 kickoffs for 485 yards. He also has three career receptions for 46 yards.

Smith was released by the Cowboys in September 2004 and participated in the New York Giants camp last August.
