USM-LA speakers

LEWISTON – Gubernatorial candidate Pat LaMarche and Jonathan Carter of the Green Party will speak from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, in the Function Room (Room 170) at USM-LA.

It is an open meeting for everyone – students, staff, faculty and community members. They will discuss the choices faced by Mainers in these times of challenges.

Garden club

AUBURN – The Garden Club of the Woman’s Literary Union will meet at the clubhouse, 19 Elm St., at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16. The program will be “Super-Market Flower Arranging.” Members should bring their own flowers, tools and containers. Prizes will be given in several categories. Marilyn Wilkinson and Dorothy Bowyer are in charge of hospitality. Refreshments will be served and guests are welcome.

Rotary speaker

LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Rotary Club will meet at noon Thursday, Feb. 16, to hear Dick Gleason of Gleason Media Group and WCNN-AM 1240 at the Ramada Inn. He will discuss working with the media to obtain successful marketing and advertising results. Anyone wishing to attend to hear the speaker or to learn more about Rotary is welcome. The buffet luncheon is $8 a person.

Movie night

LISBON – The Lisbon Library and the Lisbon Community School PTO will present Family Movie Night at 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17, in the school cafetorium, 33 Mill St.

The event is free and open to all students, staff and their families. Children must be accompanied by an adult. The featured movie will be “Zathura,” rated PG.

Seniors speaker

LEWISTON – The Holy Cross Seniors will meet at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 19, at the parish hall when Robert L. Couturier, local attorney, will be the guest speaker.

A native of Lewiston, Couturier graduated from Bates College and the University of Maine School of Law. He also serves as the Androscoggin County judge of probate. The topic of his presentation will be “I Have a Will: What Happens Next?”

There will also be a question and answer period. All seniors are invited. A social will follow and a light lunch will be served.

Fibromyalgia

LEWISTON – Women who have fibromyalgia often have difficulty receiving understanding and treatment. Tina Gilbert, BSW/LSW, and Sue Pow, a former mental health worker, are planning to begin a support group for women with fibromyalgia from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 27. They want it to be a personal journey to self-help and healing. Educational materials will be provided. For more information and to register, call 784-0155.

Preregistration

POLAND – Residents with a child who is 5 or will be by Oct. 15, should preregister them for kindergarten. Call the Poland Community School at 998-4915. Poland Community School offers a full-day kindergarten program.
