FARMINGTON – A Wilton man was arrested Friday on charges he assaulted another man with a baseball bat.
Police Chief Wayne Gallant said Monday that 20-year-old Derek Campbell was arrested Friday after turning himself in at the Franklin County jail knowing there was an arrest warrant issued for him.
He said police believe Campbell attacked another Wilton man on the Weld Road in Wilton on Feb. 2 with a wooden baseball bat.
The man “did have to seek medical treatment at Franklin Memorial Hospital and did receive a number of stitches to the head,” Gallant said.
He added he has no idea what motive Campbell may have had in the assault, but said he thinks “they knew each other.”
“They just didn’t get along, I guess,” Gallant said.
Felony assaults happen “more than (they) should,” Gallant said.
Campbell is being charged with a Class B aggravated assault, which will be transferred to Superior Court.
