NORWAY – Tina and Steven Ryan of Paris drove their acquaintance Kemson Holyoke to Portland last Sunday so she could visit a hospitalized friend and, while she was out of town, they allegedly slipped into her apartment to steal her antique china set, according to police.

Before leaving for the city, Holyoke grabbed some belongings from her apartment at 46 Paris St. and gave Tina a tour. She also mentioned that her husband would be away for the night at his mother’s house, according to the police report.

The Ryans dropped Holyoke off in Portland at noon. Around 4:30 p.m., a tenant who lives above Holyoke told police she saw the Ryans’ car parked outside the building. Melissa Fuller said she assumed the Ryans had brought Holyoke back home, and that it was Holyoke she heard walking downstairs.

The next evening when Holyoke arrived home, she discovered her antique china dishes were missing. Norway police Sgt. James Ventresca fingerprinted the cabinet and contacted the Ryans.

When he asked Tina about the burglary, “she started crying and said that they needed money so she went into Holyoke’s apartment and took some things,” the police report states.

Tina told Ventresca that when she and Steven returned to Norway, they went back to Holyoke’s apartment and packed up some things. Even though, she said, Steven told her “this is not a good idea,” the two drove to the Undercover Flea Market in Oxford and sold the china for $50, according to the police report.

Police recovered the china from the flea market.

Tina Ryan was arrested Feb. 13 on a burglary charge. The next day, Steven Ryan was arrested on charges of burglary and receiving stolen property. Both had bail set at $500 cash.
