LEWISTON – TD Banknorth, through the TD Banknorth Charitable Foundation, has given $5,000 to the Lewiston Education Fund, a nonprofit organization that was created in 2002 to fund projects that expand educational opportunities in Lewiston public schools.

“The Lewiston Education Fund is a worthy organization, working to help the schools with supplemental funding for special creative and academic programs,” said Michael McNamara, president of TD Banknorth Maine. “Its mission fits our goal of helping enhance educational opportunities for young people in Maine.”

The education fund supplements school budgets by providing grants and funding for special learning projects in technology, arts, applied learning and service learning. Funds are also used for enrichment activities and curriculum enhancement.

The fund is governed by an independent board of directors made up of community leaders in the Lewiston area. Funds are generated from individual and corporate contributions. For more information or to make a contribution, contact the fund at 795-4100 or visit www.lewistoneducationfund.org.

The $5,000 gift was provided through TD Banknorth’s charitable giving arm, the TD Banknorth Charitable Foundation, founded in 2002. For more information, visit www.tdbanknorth.com.
