FARMINGTON – Eugene Robert Wood, 81, of Wilton, died Friday evening, Feb. 17, at Franklin Memorial Hospital.

He was born April 17, 1924, in Wilton, a son of Robert E. and Alice L. Armstrong Wood. He attended Wilton schools, graduating from Wilton Academy in 1941.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II from 1943-1945.

He worked at G.H. Bass in Wilton, J.F. Concovan in Stoughton, Mass., and Saco-Moc Shoe in Portland.

On Oct. 23, 1970, he married Velma K. Brown in Wilton. She died in May 2001.

He was a member of the Wilton Snowmobile Club, American Legion, VFW, Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine and the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed fly fishing, visiting Goat Island on Wilson Lake, bird hunting and walking in the woods.

He is survived by his sister, Jacqueline Wood Kelleher of Canton Mass.; nephew, Gregory Kelleher and his partner, Gail Merchant, of Cape Neddick, grandniece and grandnephew, Alison L. Kelleher of East Kingston, N.H., and Mark W. Kelleher of Mechanicsburg, Pa.; stepchildren, Sherry Barrett of Wilton, Michael Jalbert of Phillips and Daniel Jalbert of Phillips.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Simone M. Langlois.
