Thrown from the seat of his wagon by a collision with the Fleischmann Yeast team on Lower Main street, Lewiston, yesterday morning, Edward H. Pratt, driver for the Keystone Spring Water Co., was badly injured.
He was picked up from the pavements and taken to the Central Maine General Hospital where a bad abrasion on the head was closed with several stitches.
At an early hour this morning he was resting comfortably. He will recover.
50 Years Ago, 1956
• A new-type mail box sporting a shaft which enables motorists to mail letters without getting out of their cars has made its appearance in front of the Lewiston Post Office on Ash Street. The new box is painted the usual red, white and blue.
• Gusty west winds swept Maine today in the wake of a rain storm that cut sharply into the state’s snow blanket.
The U.S. Weather Bureau said the winds reached 68 miles an hour in a gust at Bangor and Caribou reported gusts up to 60 miles an hour.
Portland’s highest wind gust was 45 miles an hour, recorded at 7:30 a.m.
Augusta reported gusts up to 55 miles an hour.

GREENE – About 65 Allen Pond property owners turned out Monday evening to cover a wide gamut of objections to a proposed 100 site campground at the 183 acre pond.
The session began with questions directed to Gary Yakawonis of Greene, who plans to operate the campground on land purchased by his father in the early part of the century. It ended with a number of Allen Pond residents declaring that despite their objections, the Greene planning board had already decided in favor of the proposed development.
LONDON – Lady Diana Spencer, who will marry Prince Charles after her 20th birthday this summer, got her first lesson in royal etiquette Wednesday over breakfast with Queen Mother Elizabeth, the prince’s grandmother. Lady Diana moved into Clarence House, the official London residence of the 80-year-old queen mother, after Buckingham Palace announced the royal wedding plans Tuesday.
