Dear Sun Spots: I have enjoyed your column for years and hope you may be able to help me.

For the past several weeks, I have experienced difficulty in receiving closed captioning on my television set. I have had my set checked and contacted the cable company and, in fact, have purchased a new television. My problem remains. Channels other than Channel 6 are received with no difficulty. How does one notify the producers? Any help would be appreciated. – No Name, No Town.

Answer: In addition to responses from readers, Sun Spots checked in with Mike Marshall, the Channel 6 programming manager. Marshall oversees closed-captioning issues, and says operators continously monitor the closed captioning text. He says providing this service is very important to the station and viewers. He appreciates hearing from viewers when they are having a problem and encourages any experiencing this to please contact the station at (800) 464-1213, ext. 214. They will do their best to solve the problem.

Dear Sun Spots: I miss the vote count and the information on how our congressional representatives voted on legislation in the House and Senate featured in Sunday’s Perspective section. Has it been discontinued permanently or will it resume in the future? – Joanna W.W., Lewiston.

Answer: Editorial page editor David Farmer says it has not been discontinued. The Roll Call is run when it is available, which is limited to when the House and/or Senate are in session. It does not include votes in committee, only votes on the floor. The House has returned from the winter break and began its second session on Jan. 31. The Senate is expected to reconvene today.

Dear Sun Spots: You are appreciated, and I’m a faithful reader. I have a friend who is in her 80s. She has a problem with her feet, a burning that keeps her awake at night. No doctor has been able to help her. Is there someone in Sun Spots land that has this problem and found help and would be willing to share? – A Faithful Reader.

Answer: It appears there could be several reasons for this, which a podiatrist – a doctor specializing in feet – might be able to diagnose. Sun Spots located the Oxford Hills Foot & Ankle Center, 43 Main St., South Paris, 743-8000, which may be able to assist your friend.

Dear Sun Spots: I’d like to obtain a catalog showing pictures of various styles of women’s handbags. I remember having one years ago but do not remember the name of the manufacturer. Thank you for your assistance. – No Name, No Town.

Answer: Since you don’t specify any particular brand – and there are many out there – you might try searching online at www.ebags.com or request a catalog from them at (800)820-6126. In addition, many name-brand manufacturers, such as www.coach.com and www.lernercatalog.com, have Web sites where you can request a catalog. If you are seeking a specific handbag, perhaps you might describe the type of bag, company name and anything else that will assist Sun Spots in locating this manufacturer and their products.
