LIVERMORE FALLS – A car stolen overnight Thursday was recovered by police Saturday abandoned on Campground Road, miles from where it was taken and with extensive damage, police said Monday.
The 2003 silver Ford Focus was stolen from 20 Bellaire Road in Livermore Falls and was found at about noon on the road, according to Livermore Falls Police Chief Ernest Steward Jr.
There was extensive damage to the front end and underneath of the car, including exhaust and transmission damage, Steward said.
A witness saw a person running away from the vehicle Friday night, but thought it was the person’s vehicle and didn’t report it, the chief said.
Police officer Joe Sage has processed the vehicle and dusted for fingerprints, he said.
The car had to be towed from the site.
